Booker Taliaferro Washington was a speaker, educator and leader of the black community in the United States.
He was born a slave but was freed within a few years and was able to begin an education at Hampton Institute and became a leader of the teacher training college for blacks called Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.
Booker T. Washington had a firm conviction that the only way that would bridge the social gap between the black and white community in the United States was through education. Therefore, with a calm and non-confrontational style, he was a leader of this movement that reached the entire country.
