Edward Bellamy

Utopian design as thought experiment; work, time, and fairness reimagined.

Edward Bellamy was an American writer and utopian socialist who was born into a family with strong roots in social justice and reform.

He became famous for his work "Looking Backward, 2000 to 1887" because it reflects his socialist ideals, as the novel is about a society set in the future and is based on cooperation and government control of the economy.

It became so famous that it inspired the Bellamyist movement, thus contributing to the development of progressive and reformist ideas in the United States.

Designing tomorrow from 2026

Edward Bellamy asks what a city would look like if logistics and justice were the plan. The details provoke argument that still matters. Read him today to test policy imagination and to separate hope that helps from hope that hides cost.
