Harry Harrison

Harry Harrison was an American science fiction writer, editor, and illustrator, best known for combining adventure, satire, and social criticism in his fiction.

His most famous creation is the antihero James Bolivar diGriz, protagonist of the Stainless Steel Rat series, which began with stories such as The Misplaced Battleship and later developed into a long-running sequence of novels. Harrison also wrote the Deathworld series, known for its dangerous alien environments and fast-paced action.

Among his best-known standalone works is Make Room! Make Room! (1966), a dystopian novel about overpopulation and resource scarcity that later inspired the film Soylent Green. Other notable works include Bill, the Galactic Hero, a satirical military science fiction novel, and the alternate-history Eden trilogy.

Throughout his career, Harrison became known for humorous and irreverent science fiction that often questioned militarism, bureaucracy, environmental destruction, and social conventions while remaining accessible and entertaining.
