Henry Fielding (1707–1754) was an English novelist and dramatist, widely regarded as one of the founders of the English novel. After early success as a playwright, the 1737 theater censorship pushed him toward prose, where he shaped a lively, omniscient style that blended humor with moral reflection.

Fielding’s writing is known for its earthy humor and sharp social satire, poking at hypocrisy, pretension, and folly.
