Effortless comedy of manners where language acrobatics deliver kindness and clean joy.
1881 – 1975 · United Kingdom | 9 books | Popular now: My Man Jeeves
Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse was an English author and one of the most widely read humorists of the 20th century.
Most of Wodehouse's fiction is set in England, although he spent much of his life in the US and used New York and Hollywood as settings for some of his novels and short stories. He wrote a series of Broadway musical comedies during and after the First World War, that played an important part in the development of the American musical.
Wodehouse offers comic oxygen. Timing, syntax, and goodwill align to make relief that is not empty. In anxious feeds he proves that style can soothe and sharpen at once. Read him to reset mood, hear prose as music, and watch satire that laughs without cruelty.
