Radclyffe Hall, born Marguerite Radclyffe-Hall, was an English writer known for her novels and poetry. She stood out for her courageous advocacy of sexual identity and LGBTQ+ rights at a time when talking about it was taboo.
Her most famous novel is The Well of Loneliness, one of the first books to openly address female homosexuality. Without being too explicit, it was tried and banned in the UK for obscenity. This further increased the novel's interest and popularity, and established the author as a pioneering figure in the defense of the freedoms of this group.
She went on to write other novels and poems, exploring themes such as social class and spirituality, which are characterized by great realism and a deep psychological understanding of her characters.
