Samuel Taylor Coleridge was an English poet, literary critic, and philosopher, and one of the key figures of Romanticism.
He was born in Ottery St Mary, Devon, and studied at Cambridge University, although he never graduated.
He was a co-founder of the English Romantic movement with William Wordsworth, and both published Lyrical Ballads in 1798, a collection of poems that marked the beginning of this literary era.
Throughout his life, Coleridge struggled with opium addiction and health problems, which greatly affected his work, but despite his personal difficulties, he left a lasting legacy of poetry and critical thought.
