Timothy Dexter was an eccentric American businessman and author. He was known for his flamboyant business decisions as well as his idiosyncratic personality.

Despite his lack of formal education, coming from a modest family, and being considered a simple man, Dexter managed to amass a fortune through a series of business investments that many considered absurd, but which curiously proved successful.

Among his more bizarre decisions were exporting bed warmers to the Caribbean, where temperatures were very warm, and selling cats to the West Indies. Surprisingly, both ventures paid off: the warmers were used as molasses dippers, and the cats helped control pests.

Dexter was also known for his eccentric behavior and delusions of grandeur. He proclaimed himself the Great Man of North America and went so far as to build a mansion adorned with statues of historical figures, including one of himself with the inscription I am the first in the East, the first in the West, and the greatest in the world.

Throughout his life, Dexter was considered both a lucky man and a buffoon, but his ability to turn ridiculous situations into fortune has made him a fascinating figure in American history.
