Science Fiction Fantasy Exploration Mystery Adventure Supernatural
In Search of the Unknown is a horror novel written by Robert W. Chambers and originally published in 1904. It consists of five stories about the hunting of supernatural animals.
Gilland works as secretary to the director of the Bronx Zoo, Professor Farrago. Professor Farrago sends Gilland to investigate sightings of animals that were thought to be extinct or unknown.
Through Gilland's adventures, we discover picturesque landscapes perfectly described by Chambers in his search for these creatures.
Not all the adventures will turn out as expected, as Gilland constantly falls in love with the first woman he meets, which also gives the book a touch of humour at times.
"Because it all seems so improbable—so horribly impossible to me now, sitting here safe and sane in my own library—I hesitate to record an episode which already appears to me less horrible than grotesque."
