Robur the Conqueror by Jules Verne — cover

Robur the Conqueror

Robur the Conqueror is a science fiction adventure novel by Jules Verne, first published in 1886.

The story begins with a debate among members of an American aeronautical club over the future of flight. Their discussions are interrupted by Robur, a mysterious and brilliant inventor who claims that heavier-than-air machines are superior to balloons.

To prove his ideas, Robur takes several members of the club aboard the Albatross, an extraordinary flying machine capable of traveling across the world. During the journey, they witness remarkable landscapes and dangerous situations while trying to understand the power and possibilities of this new technology.

Combining adventure, invention, and scientific speculation, the novel explores technological progress, human ambition, and the struggle between competing visions of the future of aviation.

"BANG! Bang!
The pistol shots were almost simultaneous. A cow peacefully grazing fifty yards away received one of the bullets in her back. She had nothing to do with the quarrel all the same."
