Socialism: Utopian and Scientific is a political philosophy text written by Friedrich Engels and originally published in 1880.

Engels posits that socialism is a workers' movement that arose naturally as a consequence of the expansion of capitalist industry and the profound social changes it brought about.

This text serves as a complementary reading to The Communist Manifesto and presents a good introduction to Marxism.

Engels exposes the differences of scientific socialism compared to previous visions of socialism and condemned to failure despite their good intentions. He deals with themes such as the materialist interpretation of history, the opposing class struggles of capitalism and the contradictions and problems that this economic system possesses.

This edition of Socialism: Utopian and Scientific is based on the translation by Edward Aveling.
