The Bungalow Mystery is a mystery novel written under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene and first published in 1930. It is the third book in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series.
While returning from a vacation, Nancy Drew and her friend Helen Corning are caught in a violent storm and rescued by Laura Pendleton, a young woman whose mother has recently died. Laura is traveling to meet her new guardians, but she soon begins to suspect that they are not who they claim to be.
After hearing about Laura’s fears, Nancy decides to investigate. Her search leads her to an abandoned bungalow, a hidden criminal scheme, and a plan to steal Laura’s inheritance.
Combining suspense, danger, and clever detective work, The Bungalow Mystery follows Nancy as she uncovers the truth and works to protect an innocent young woman from fraud and deception.
"“Don’t you think we should turn back, Helen? It’s getting dreadfully dark out here on the lake and I don’t like the look of those big black clouds.”
As Nancy Drew addressed her chum, Helen Corning, she gazed anxiously up at the sky and then out across a long expanse of water to the distant shore.
The two girls were spending several days at a camp located on Moon Lake, and on this particular afternoon they had slipped away for a delightful motorboat outing. They had cruised aimlessly about for several hours, enjoying the lake scenery and, particularly, a cool, refreshing breeze which brought them relief from an unseasonably torrid day, for it was early summer."
