The Call of Cthulhu is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft and first published in 1928. Cthulhu, the central figure of the cycle called The Cthulhu Myths appears for the first time in this story.
The story is told in two main narratives by the "author", who is the only one capable of understanding what happened and is aware of how relevant the information he has is. The story is told in the order in which he discovered the truth.
In the first part of the story we are confronted with the documents on which a university professor, who died, was working. The reports tell of an attack by a cult and the investigation discovers that they worship a monstrous creature called Cthulhu.
Cthulhu came from the stars long before the appearance of the human being and since then rests in a deep sleep in R'lyeh, the submerged city.
On the other hand, in the second part of the story, we find the notebook of a ship's officer who comes across the sunken city in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It seems that the city has emerged due to the influence of the stars and it is time to awaken Cthulhu and his spawn...
