The Kingdom of God Is Within You is a philosophical treatise written by Leo Tolstoy and originally published in 1894. It was published in Germany because it was banned in Russia for its interpretation of Christianity.

Tostoi analyzes the hypocrisy of modern society in relation to human suffering and how it has increased it. The poor are subjugated to the rich and powerful and the vast majority of them do their bidding, never moving to silent revolution. Tolstoy even makes the case that ordinary Christian people can be complicit in violence by justifying inhumanity.

This book, which is one of the first to deal with the principles of nonviolence, was a major inspiration in Ghandi's battle for justice. It is also considered one of the earliest works of the Christian anarchist movement.

This edition is based on Constance Garnett's translation from Russian into English.

Tolstoy’s fiercest prose argues for nonviolent resistance and radical conscience over state compulsion. Less sermon than diagnosis, it dismantles retaliation as policy and anger as habit. The writing is urgent, crystalline, and startlingly practical for a spiritual book.
