Plainspoken Westerns about work, trail life, and crews that hold together.
1859 – 1935 · United States | 2 books | Popular now: The Log of a Cowboy
Andy Adams was born in Indiana. He began writing at the age of 43. During the early 1880s he went to Texas, where he stayed for 10 years, spending much of that time driving cattle on the western trails. In 1890 he tried working as a businessman, but the venture failed, so he tried gold-mining in Colorado and Nevada.
Andy Adams demystifies the cattle drive. Logistics, weather, animals, and temper test character more than duels do. The realism respects skill and time. Read him today to feel labor without romance, to enjoy camp humor, and to understand how teams survive distance and risk.
