Arthur Schopenhauer

Philosophy of will, suffering, and art; lucid style with dark clarity and wit.

Arthur Schopenhauer was a German philosopher born in Danzig, Prussia (now Gdansk, Poland). His philosophical work had a strong influence and is still widely studied today.

Born into a wealthy family, Schopenhauer began his studies at the University of Göttingen and later in Berlin.

Despite the influence of writers such as Kant and Hegel, Schopenhauer developed his own philosophical thought from an early age, characterized by a strong pessimism and focused on the nature of human suffering.

His concept of the will and his study of human desire influenced many writers of the time, such as Nietzsche.

Dark clarity, bright style in 2026

Arthur Schopenhauer argues without fog about desire, pain, and consolation. Pessimism becomes a method for honesty, and style keeps the edge sharp. Read him today to examine motive, to think about compassion, and to value prose that carries thought like steel.
