John Steinbeck

John Steinbeck was an American writer best known for his novels depicting the lives of ordinary people against the backdrop of social injustice and the Great Depression. Born in Salinas, California, this region strongly influenced his fiction. After studying at Stanford University without completing a degree, he held various jobs while developing his career as a writer.
He became famous for works such as Tortilla Flat, Of Mice and Men, The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. His writing often focused on workers, farmers, migrants and people struggling against poverty and hardship. His most celebrated novel, The Grapes of Wrath, won the Pulitzer Prize and is considered a classic of American literature.
In 1962, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. He passed away in New York City in 1968. He is now widely regarded as one of the most important American authors of the twentieth century.
