Valmiki

Valmiki is revered as an ancient Indian sage and the author of the epic poem 'Ramayana', one of the most important literary works in Indian culture. Born in the first millennium BC, Valmiki's life story is shrouded in legend and myth. According to tradition, he was a bandit named Ratnakara who, after a transformative encounter with the sage Narada, repented and turned to a life of penance and meditation.

During his period of asceticism, Valmiki is said to have been the first to write shlokas, a type of verse form used in Sanskrit poetry, earning him the title of 'Adi Kavi' or the first poet. The Ramayana, attributed to him, recounts the life and adventures of Lord Rama, an avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. The epic is not only a religious text, but also a profound work of literature that offers insights into the duties and relationships of individuals within a social and moral framework.
