A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is a feminism work written by Mary Wollstonecraft and first published in 1792.
We are faced with a plea in defense of women's rights at a time when it was a challenge to proclaim that message due to the male chauvinist society of England at the time.
Therefore, it was not exempt from accusations and setbacks for which Mary Wollstonecraft received a great number of attacks.
Although the lexicon is a bit complicated, especially in the beginning of the book, it is worth the effort. It deals with topics such as the role of women in literature (which improved significantly in the following century) or the right to education regardless of whether you are a man or a woman.
Definitely, we are before an essential reading for its historical importance and for being one of the first pleadings in defense of women's rights and germ of feminism.
"In the present state of society it appears necessary to go back to first principles in search of the most simple truths, and to dispute with some prevailing prejudice every inch of ground. To clear my way, I must be allowed to ask some plain questions, and the answers will probably appear as unequivocal as the axioms on which reasoning is built; though, when entangled with various motives of action, they are formally contradicted, either by the words or conduct of men".
