History of the Peloponnesian War is a history book written by Thucydides between 431 BC and 411 BC.
The book details the conflict that took place in Ancient Greece between Sparta and Athens from 431 BC and ended almost three decades later with a Spartan victory.
With a great level of detail and in an objective manner, the work is one of the earliest known history books. Thucydides does not blame the war on divine interventions, but asserts that it is the human being himself who forges his destiny and is the cause of these heartbreaking conflicts.
Although Thucydides was a general and participated in the war, his vision is objective without taking sides and establishing the same logic in them. Both sides have a justification for the war.
This edition of the book History of the Peloponnesian War is based on the translation made by Richard Crawley in 1874.
