The Blue Castle is a novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery published in 1926.
In the fictional town of Deerwood (Ontario, Canada), during the 1920s, lives Valancy Stirling, a single girl of twenty-nine, who lives in a suffocating environment marked by the iron control of her mother.
She suffers constant contempt for her family for remaining single at that age, which at that time was a failure on the part of the woman in the objective of finding a husband.
Overwhelmed and fed up with so much contempt, she decides to escape her monotonous existence in search of the slightest pleasure, after receiving shocking news, and go out in search of her own identity and her awakening as a woman.
Valancy then becomes a hero, a shining example of a woman with courage and determination in the face of the unknown.
