Work, time, and town in 2026

Arnold Bennett writes towns as worlds. Shops, kilns, and kitchens carry ambition and care, and time matters as much as plot. The prose is plain and generous. Read him to respect ordinary skill, to enjoy steady comedy, and to feel how industry shapes character and choice.
