Atkinson studied law and worked as a judge for more than a decade before beginning his work as a writer. He began his literary career by publishing a series of books on occultism under various pseudonyms such as Theron Q. Dumont or Yogi Ramacharaka. Atkinson based his thought and philosophy on two central themes: the power of thought and the law of attraction.

For the American writer, our thoughts can alter the real or material world, and we can take advantage of this to use the power of the mind with the intention of achieving success and happiness in our lives.

Atkinson was one of the founding members of the magazine New Thought. Although he passed away in 1932, his ideas are still relevant and read by the public today.

Mental discipline without mystique in 2026

William Walker Atkinson writes practical exercises for focus, will, and calm. The tone is direct and usable even when claims run large. Read him today as a toolkit for routine and mindset, taking what trains effort and leaving what promises too much.
