The Hindu-Yogi Science Of Breath

The Hindu-Yogi Science Of Breath is a spiritual and self-help book written by William Walker Atkinson and published in 1903.

The book describes the physiology of breathing and the relationship of the yogi's knowledge of prana to it. Despite being a very short book, it is full of knowledge and exercises to improve our breathing.

The Hindu-Yogi Science Of Breath begins by introducing and explaining how we breathe, so that we can understand the process, and introduces us to the mythical physiology (prana, nadi, etc.) that has traditionally been used to describe pranayama (breathing exercises).

Not only does it cover theory, but it provides a detailed set of practices and exercises that are very easy to follow, starting with very simple exercises and gradually moving into more advanced practices. With these exercises it is possible to master breathing, which leads to an improvement in general health.

"The Western student is apt to be somewhat confused in his ideas regarding the Yogis and their philosophy and practice. Travelers to India have written great tales about the hordes of fakirs, mendicants and mountebanks who infest the great roads of India and the streets of its cities, and who impudently claim the title 'Yogi.'"
