A Room of One's Own is a novel written by Virginia Woolf and first published in 1929.

A Room of One’s Own is an essay about the relationship between women and literature. It is based on a series of lectures that Woolf gave at the University of Cambridge.

Woolf argues that for a woman to write and develop her literary talent, she must have financial independence and a space of her own where she can think and be creative.

She examines the history of female writers before her and the challenges they faced in a male-dominated society, such as Judith Shakespeare (the fictional sister of the famous playwright), illustrating how social restrictions have stifled female creativity.

This is not only a feminist manifesto but also a masterpiece of modernist prose, which continues to resonate powerfully today.

"BUT, you may say, we asked you to speak about women and fiction -- what has that got to do with a room of one's own? I will try to explain. When you asked me to speak about women and fiction I sat down on the banks of a river and began to wonder what the words meant. "
