A Room with a View is a novel written by E. M. Forster and first published in 1908.
Lucy Honeychurch is a young woman living in England in the Edwardian era who finds herself in a complicated stage of life torn between what she wants in life, to find true love, and what she believes society expects of her.
The title of the novel refers to two men, father and son, offering two women their hotel room because it has a better view. That act already reflects etiquette, rigidity and how society is structured.
Written before World War I, the novel shows the social change that occurred after the beginning of modern society. It deals with a series of topics such as religion or politics in a subtle and light way, and with large doses of humor.
It has been included in the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century by the Modern Library in the 79th position.
