Roxana: The Fortunate Mistress is a novel written by Daniel Defoe and first published in 1724.

The book Roxana: The Fortunate Mistress tells us the life of a woman who has decided to give up her virtue in exchange for not only surviving but also for fame and wealth, being a lover of rich men.

Although she is a great seductress, she is also very easily seduced by money or the illusion of escaping her past.

The novel raises the idea that the women of the time (18th century) could be the owners of their own property. In addition, it also delves into the confrontation between sexual freedom and the freedom of motherhood, since Roxana becomes pregnant on numerous occasions due to her sexual conquests. She could be considered a proto-feminist protagonist, in the sense that she engages in prostitution for her own goal of freedom.
