The Mysterious Affair at Styles is a mystery novel written by Agatha Christie and originally published in 1920. In addition to being the first novel by the British writer, it also features for the first time the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot.

Emily Inglethorp is the owner of a luxurious country house. But one night she dies in the family home after suffering convulsions. Although it appears to be a natural death, the autopsy reveals that it was murder.

In such a large house, full of characters, both family and servants, who could have an interest in killing Emily? Hercule Poirot is in for a difficult case, as there is no shortage of suspects and motives pointing to the murderer.

The novel laid the foundations for many later detective novels: a group of characters trapped in the same place, suspecting each other. With its agile rhythm, it is a fantastic introduction to the universe created by the incomparable Agatha Christie.

"The intense interest aroused in the public by what was known at the time as "The Styles Case" has now somewhat subsided. Nevertheless, in view of the world-wide notoriety which attended it, I have been asked, both by my friend Poirot and the family themselves, to write an account of the whole story."

The Mysterious Affair at Styles is the № 1 in the Hercule Poirot series by Agatha Christie.
