We is a dystopian novel written by Yevgeny Zamyatin and first published in English in 1924.

The novel is set in a future society called the One State, where citizens live under total government control. People are identified by numbers instead of names, live in glass apartments, and follow a strict schedule designed to eliminate privacy, imagination, and personal freedom.

The story is told through the diary of D-503, an engineer working on a spaceship called the Integral. At first, he believes completely in the system, but his encounters with a rebellious woman lead him to experience forbidden emotions and independent thoughts that threaten his loyalty to the State.

As D-503 becomes more aware of desire, doubt, and individuality, the novel explores the conflict between freedom and obedience. We is considered an important early work of dystopian fiction and influenced later novels about authoritarian societies.
