Adventure fiction Animal literature Survival Domestication vs. Wild Violence and Power Morality and Ethics
White Fang is a novel written by Jack London and originally published in installments in 1906.
The story tells the life of White Fang, from the time he is born on an Indian reservation until he is sold by his owner to a dog hunter who makes him wild and aggressive.
It is set in the Yukon Territory (Canada) at the end of the 19th century at the height of the Gold Rush. It is narrated, most of the time, from the point of view of the animal itself. In doing so, London explores how animals see us and the world around them.
White Fang will get to know both the cruel world of wild animals and the even crueler world of humans. It covers topics such as morality and surrender.
It is a complementary reading and closely linked to The Call of the Wild, one of the best known works of Jack London. It enjoys great fame and has been adapted to film on several occasions.
