The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a novel written by Mark Twain and originally published between 1876 and 1878. It is one of Twain's best-known works and is considered a literary masterpiece.

Set in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, a town on the coast of the Mississippi River, the novel narrates the childhood adventures of Tom Sawyer, a boy growing up in the period before the Civil War. He lives there with his aunt, stepbrother and cousin.

St. Petersburg is a quiet, small town where the Christian faith predominates and society is close-knit, as if it were a family.

Tom Sawyer has a reputation for mischief and conflict, and the novel chronicles these youthful adventures. He is mischievous, skips school and runs away from home with his friend Huckleberry Finn.

Although Tom doesn't want to go to school, the boy is very clever and witty, and the only thing that prevents him from getting away with his mischief is that his stepbrother Sid is a gossip...
