Heidi is a children's novel written by Johanna Spyri and originally published in 1880. It narrates the life of a little girl who lives with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps.
Little Heidi is an orphan who, after living for a few years in the care of her aunt, has to move to live with her ill-tempered grandfather in the Swiss Alps.
Heidi adapts perfectly to the change of life and develops a deep love for the wild animals, the local inhabitants and the whole environment. However, she will have to return to the city and the melancholy and longing to return home will take hold of her.
The novel masterfully conveys the love for nature, the mountains and the freedom that comes with that kind of life. It has beautiful descriptions of life in that part of Switzerland in the 19th century.
