Journey to the Center of the Earth is a science fiction novel written by Jules Verne and originally published in 1864. It is one of the French writer's best-known works.

The book tells the story of three men who set out for the center of the planet through the crater of an extinct Icelandic volcano, Snæfellsjökull, following instructions left in a coded manuscript.

The party — the peculiar professor Otto Lidenbrock, his reluctant nephew Axel, who tells the story, and the imperturbable Icelandic guide Hans — face one obstacle after another: getting lost in the dark, running out of water, an underground sea with prehistoric creatures in it, and finally the volcanic chimney that decides how they come back up.

This edition of Journey to the Center of the Earth is based on the translation by Frederick Amadeus Malleson.
