Jungle Tales of Tarzan

Jungle Tales of Tarzan is a collection of twelve linked stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, first published in book form in 1919. It is the sixth Tarzan volume but returns to the hero's adolescence, before the arrival of Jane Porter, and to the years in which the orphan raised by great apes begins to understand that he is human.

Tarzan competes with Taug, experiences his first attachment to Teeka, faces exile and danger, and tests himself against the animals and people of the forest. These episodes present survival as a continuing education, shaped by curiosity as much as strength.

The cabin and the books left by his parents awaken questions that the ape tribe cannot answer. Tarzan experiments with language, justice, love, death, and the idea of a power beyond the visible world, gradually recognizing the difference between inheritance and belonging.

Burroughs combines self-contained jungle adventures with a coming-of-age arc. The collection gives greater attention than the later novels to Tarzan's uncertainty, loneliness, and moral trial, showing the making of the legendary figure rather than assuming him fully formed.
