Master and Man is short story written by Leo Tolstoy and first published in 1895.

In this story we meet Vasily Andreyevich Brejunov, a rich merchant and his servant named Nikita. Both leave with their horse to do some business. However, suddenly a storm catches them in the middle of the journey and puts the three of them and their businesses at risk.

Because they want to get there faster than the others so they don't get ahead of them with the purchase, they decide to continue their journey but end up lost in the snow. Luckily for them, they come across a town and stop there to rest. Even so, Vasily Andreyevich decides that the trip must be resumed and they start again. However, the horse gets tired and they cannot find their way.

Nikita is not as warm as his mistress, and will soon go into hypothermia and near death. Then Vasily Andreyevich will have to make a difficult choice: continue his journey alone and let his servant die, or wait and stay with him...
