Fantasy Children's literature Adventure Magic Friendship Courage Identity
Ozma of Oz is a fantasy novel written by L. Frank Baum and originally published in 1907. It is the third book in the Oz series and one of the most appreciated by fans of the saga.
This third installment focuses again on Dorothy, absent in the previous book, who decides to travel to Australia to help her stressed uncle Henry. However, a storm sweeps her overboard in the middle of the journey and, as in the first book, she ends up in a fantastic country where she will start a new adventure.
Dorothy will meet old friends from the first book and meet a series of new and curious characters such as the Tik-tok wind-up machine.
This story differs from the two previous ones in that it has a point of mystery: Dorothy begins her adventure all alone, not knowing where she is or how to survive. This sense of intrigue and danger accompanies much of the novel and is even present in creepy enemies such as the "Wheeler"...
"The wind blew hard and joggled the water of the ocean, sending ripples across its surface. Then the wind pushed the edges of the ripples until they became waves, and shoved the waves around until they became billows."
