The Metamorphosis is a novel originally written in German by Franz Kafka in 1915. The story tells us the story of Gregor who is transformed into an aberrant insect, which causes problems in Gregor's communication with his circle. society and his family, reaching a totally unsustainable situation.

This work tells the story of salesman who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a enormous insect.

Gregor is a young man of about 23 years. He earns a living as a cloth merchant, which provides support for his parents and sister. But suddenly, after the "metamorphosis", he wakes up one day turned into a huge insect, a giant beetle. This prevents him from continuing to carry out his trade as a merchant and forces the rest of his family to work in order to survive. His strange situation and the rejection he causes in his environment lead him to seclude himself and isolate himself socially.

Although its original title in German, Die Verwandlung, translates as "the transformation", in English it was decided to translate it as "metamorphosis".

This edition of The Metamorphosis is based on David Wyllie's translation.
