Rinkitink in Oz

Rinkitink in Oz is a children's fantasy novel by L. Frank Baum, first published in 1916. It is the tenth book in the Oz series.

The peaceful island kingdom of Pingaree is invaded by warriors from Regos and Coregos. Prince Inga escapes capture, but his parents and their people are carried away. His only advantage is the secret of three magic pearls that grant strength, protection, and wise counsel.

Inga sets out on a rescue mission with the cheerful King Rinkitink and Rinkitink's sarcastic talking goat, Bilbil. Their journey crosses the Nonestic Ocean and leads from occupied islands to the underground kingdom of the Nomes.

Unlike many Oz adventures, the story centers on a young prince learning to lead during a crisis. Inga must use courage and judgment rather than depend entirely on magic, while Rinkitink's songs and reluctance to behave like a conventional king provide much of the humor.

Fast-paced and largely self-contained, Rinkitink in Oz explores responsibility, perseverance, and loyalty to family and community. Familiar Oz characters enter later in the adventure, connecting Prince Inga's quest to Baum's wider fairyland.
