The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi is a religious book written by Joseph Smith and originally published in 1830.

It is a sacred and basic text for understanding the theological stance of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In The Book of Mormon we discover the story of a group of Israelites who arrive in North America from Jerusalem in 600 BC led by the prophet Lehi.

The journey lasts almost a decade and their goal is to find the promised land of America, which they do.

Once there, however, they are divided into two camps: the Nephites, who follow the teachings of Lehi's son Nephi, and the Lamanites, who reject Nephi's leadership and become his enemies.

The book unfolds the story of the clashes between these two warring factions as the Nephites attempt to preserve their civilisation and faith in God.
