The Return of Tarzan is an adventure novel written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and published in 1913 as a magazine and in 1925 as a book. It is the second volume in his series of twenty-four books on the character of Tarzan.
The story continues after the first book. Tarzan, the ape man, is not fully satisfied and happy with his life in a civilized society and his relationships with other human beings. Faced with this situation, he makes the decision to return to the African jungle where he grew up.
Once there, rumors reach him about a city of gold called Opar, which is inhabited by beautiful women ruled over by a cruel and tyrannical priestess. Tarzan decides, despite the danger involved, to embark on an expedition with a group of warriors to the city of Opar, surely to face the tyranny and evil of the queen.
