Uncle Tom's Cabin is a historical novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe and originally published in 1852.

The novel tells the story of Uncle Tom, a good and kind slave who belongs to a kind master. However, his master has financial problems and is forced to sell Tom.

Tom ends up on a plantation in the southern United States, where he experiences suffering and oppression. The novel focuses on the struggle for freedom in the context of slavery in the United States before the War of Succession.

The novel, without being crude, deals very well with the subject of slavery. It was a cornerstone in changing the minds of many people about slavery, especially in the northern United States, and they would go on to support the abolition of slavery and the subsequent civil war that resulted from that decision.

"Late in the afternoon of a chilly day in February, two gentlemen were sitting alone over their wine, in a well-furnished dining parlor, in the town of P——, in Kentucky. There were no servants present, and the gentlemen, with chairs closely approaching, seemed to be discussing some subject with great earnestness."
