Adventure Fantasy Imperialism Adventure Friendship Courage The Quest
Allan Quatermain is a novel written by H. Rider Haggard and first published in 1887.
This book continues the story of King Solomon's Mines and follows the adventures of Allan Quatermain, an experienced hunter and explorer.
This time Quatermain embarks on a perilous expedition through uncharted territory, from the coast of East Africa to the land of the Masai.
He is accompanied by his companions Sir Henry Curtis, Captain John Good and the Zulu warrior Umslopogaas, whom Quatermain has persuaded to join him on this new adventure, motivated by his grief over the death of his son and a desire to focus on something to overcome his grief.
The group sets out to find a supposedly lost civilisation, but along the way they face dangerous wilderness, encounters with hostile tribes, battles with wild animals and other perilous adventures.
"A week had passed since the funeral of my poor boy Harry, and one evening I was in my room walking up and down and thinking, when there was a ring at the outer door. Going down the steps I opened it myself, and in came my old friends Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good, RN. They entered the vestibule and sat themselves down before the wide hearth, where, I remember, a particularly good fire of logs was burning. βIt is very kind of you to come round,β I said by way of making a remark; βit must have been heavy walking in the snow.β"
