Mystery Detective fiction Short Story Justice Guilt and Innocence The effects of the past on the present Friendship
The Adventure of the Crooked Man is a short story written by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1893.
Colonel James Barclay has been found dead, violently. The main suspect? His wife Nancy. The two were living together outside the military camp, in a villa. After a walk with her neighbor, Nancy returned home and asked the maid for tea (which was odd, she never drank tea). Afterwards she met with her husband and an employee saw them. After that meeting, James Barclay was never seen alive again. Everyone is shocked, as they were apparently a very happy couple.
Sherlcok Holmes is working on this case and calls Watson to invite him to participate in the end of the investigation. Holmes has clues that may show the innocence of the colonel's wife. Find out the outcome in this fantastic story in which, as usual in Sherlock Holmes stories, all is not what it seems.
"I looked at the clock. It was a quarter to twelve. This could not be a visitor at so late an hour. A patient, evidently, and possibly an all-night sitting. With a wry face I went out into the hall and opened the door. To my astonishment, it was Sherlock Holmes who stood upon my step".
