Mystery Detective fiction Short story Crime solving Deduction Brotherhood Secrecy
The Adventure of the Greek Interpreter is a short story written by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1893. This book introduces the character of Mr. Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock Holmes' older brother.
In this adventure Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are visited by Mr. Mycroft Holmes who asks Sherlock for help in a case involving a Greek interpreter who has disappeared.
The three embark on a journey to a village called Aldgate, where they find the interpreter's body. Sherlock, quickly and logically as always, deduces that the man has been killed by a snake bite. Therefore, the question is: Who has brought the snake there to murder the interpreter and what motives would he have?
"During my long and intimate acquaintance with Mr. Sherlock Holmes I had never heard him refer to his relations, and hardly ever to his own early life. This reticence upon his part had increased the somewhat inhuman effect which he produced upon me, until sometimes I found myself regarding him as an isolated phenomenon, a brain without a heart, as deficient in human sympathy as he was pre-eminent in intelligence".
