The New Life, in Italian: La Vita nuova, is a collection of works where poetry and prose alternate, written by Dante Aliguieri and originally published in 1293. It is the author's first work and was dedicated to his beloved Beatrice after her death.
In this work, Dante narrates the story from the time he met her at the age of 9 and their love story up to the time of her death. Although the two never married, Beatrice had a great impact on the Italian writer. The ideas of this work were further developed in the author's great success: The Divine Comedy, written a few years later.
The name of the title refers to the vital change experienced by Dante Alighieri after falling in love with Beatrice.
This edition of The New Life is based on the translation made by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and published in the edition of Ellis and Elvey, London, 1899.
