The Odyssey is an epic poem divided into 24 cantos written by Homer around the 8th century BC.

It is set after the end of the Trojan War (events that are recounted in The Iliad) and Odysseus sets out to return from Troy to Ithaca, his homeland, after ten years of war.

It also introduces us to Telemachus, a young man of about 20 years and son of Odysseus who will have to defend his family from those who devour the riches of Odysseus' palace and the dozens of suitors of Penelope, Odysseus' wife, giving Odysseus for dead and asking Penelope to marry him.

This edition of The Odyssey is based on the translation by William Cullen Bryant.
